NFL Playoffs: Conference Championships
By ER Kelly on Jan 16, 2012 | In Everyday Stuff
I've been slackin' on my KP posts... pretty busy lately. As of this weekend we're at the point of the Conference Championships in the NFL Playoffs. For the NFC: the Giants play the 49ers... for the AFC: it's the Ravens at the Patriots. This is the part where I point out statistical curiosities.
This year, not a single wildcard team made it past their first game. The Giants are in at 4th seed, all the others teams are either 1 or 2.
Each of the four remaining teams has won a super bowl in the last six years, save for the 49ers (1995)... though SanFran has a total FIVE superbowl wins, second only to Pittsburgh. The 49ers are also the only team in it that isn't from the NorthEast.
Personally, I find it amusing that the Tebows - I mean Broncos - and the Packers (two of the most fawned-over teams this year) didn't even make it to the conference game. I'm also surprised to see that NY is still in it, though I don't think I'm the only one.
It would be boring if New England went to another super bowl as it would be the 5th time since 2002. Even worse would be a New England/New York superbowl, since that exact game occurred recently in 2008.
As a die-hard Pittsburgh fan, the last thing I want is for the 49ers to win another super bowl. That will put them at 6 titles - tie with Pittsburgh for the most of any team.
MY SUPER BOWL TEAM SUPPORT AT THIS POINT: if San Francisco is there for the NFC, I'm for the AFC no matter who it is. If New York is the NFC champs instead, I'm going to hope it's against Baltimore simply because (as I mentioned before) we've already seen a New York/New England super bowl recently. I'd really like to see New York vs. Baltimore because that would be fresh and no matter who wins, Pittsburgh's title record remains intact.
We'll see what happens
